Shanklin is a popular seaside resort in the east of the Island. Famous for its sandy beaches, dramatic cliffs, chocolate-box Old Village shops and hotels, plus a wooded ravine in Shanklin Chine.
The town's most famous resident was poet John Keats. The town also featured heavily in Operation PLUTO ("Pipe Line Under The Ocean"), an austentacious World War II effort to supply fuel to allied forces in northern France which undoubtedly contributed to the success of D-Day. Parts of the apparatus can still be seen in the chine and at other Island locations.
Here's some of the most frequently-asked questions about school visits to Shanklin (Town), posed by teachers and other group leaders

There are plenty of places to stop for a packed lunch - on the beach, at Rylstone Gardens, on Big Mead etc.
