The beach is a public space; groups must be mindful of other visitors. Appley Tower is a historic landmark and must be respected; youngsters are not permitted to climb on the exterior stonework or the surrounding defensive sea walls.

During the summer season, there is a designated Lifeguard station on the Ryde seafront.
Due to the vast tidal range, the sand can remain very wet and muddy far from the shore. Youngsters should bring a change of footwear and towels if they intend to explore the intertidal zones.
