Mottistone and Brook are adjacent villages tucked away in the south west corner of the Isle of Wight some 8 miles from Newport in the centre. It is home to Mottistone Manor, managed by the National Trust, and the Island's only megalithic monument The Longstone nearby, which was used as a meeting place in Anglo-Saxon times.
Brook is on the coast and is famous for its fossil-laden cliffs, beaches and fields, with a chine leading down to Brook Bay - a relatively secluded sand and pebble beach. The writer J B Priestley lived in Brook.

There are plenty of grassy places to stop for a picnic, or head to the beach.
There are no first aid facilities.
There are toilets at the manor (paid); alternatively just along the coast from Brook beach at Compton Bay there is a public toilet block on the NT car park.
Visitiors to Brook Beach must have sturdy, ideally waterproof footwear, with excellent grip, as the fossilised forest and rocks are extremely slippery.Mottistone Manor Gardens are chargeable locally, but there's plenty to do in the locale which is free of charge.
At the beach, dinosaur footprints are only visible at low tide.
